PT 141 is an injectable peptide that enhances the sex drive.

PT 141, also known as Bremelanotide PT 141, is a synthetic peptide blend derived from Melanotan II, a hormone that darkens skin pigmentation. Researchers found a side effect of Melanotan II was sexual arousal. Instead of acting on the vascular system like medications Viagra and Cialis, it affects the nervous system making it a good alternative to improve sexual dysfunction.

Currently, PT 141 is FDA-approved to treat female hypoactive sexual desire disorder.

How Does PT 141 Work?

A tiny amount of Bremelanotide PT 141 is either applied as a nasal spray or it can be injected with a tiny needle into areas where there are fat deposits such as the lower abdomen, stomach region or thigh. A dose is administered approximately 1 hour prior to sexual activity and the beneficial effects are noticed for up to 3 days.

Once injected, PT 141 binds to melanocortin receptors (MC3-R and MC4-R) in the brain’s hypothalamus. Brain neurons activate resulting in on-demand erections and enhancement in libido. The potency of the medication can last hours and the libido-enhancing effects of PT 141 can last even longer.

Some patients respond within minutes while others see results in several hours. Side effects include nausea, flushing and headaches.
