Mesotherapy
A targeted injectable treatment for localized fat reduction, skin tightening, and body rejuvenation — using microinjections of vitamins, enzymes, and active compounds delivered directly to the treatment area.
Mesotherapy is an injectable technique that uses fine needles to deliver a series of microinjections into the middle layer of the skin — the mesoderm — and directly into target areas of the body. The injections deliver vitamins, enzymes, and antioxidants to increase circulation, support metabolic activity in the area, and stimulate collagen and elastin production.
Originally developed in France in the 1950s as a technique for pain relief, mesotherapy has been adapted over decades for a range of cosmetic applications — particularly for localized fat reduction, cellulite improvement, skin rejuvenation, and body sculpting in areas that have been resistant to diet and exercise.
At medAge, mesotherapy protocols are customized to each patient’s areas and goals. What goes into the injection and how it’s applied depends on what you’re treating and where.
Mesotherapy is most commonly used for the following applications. Protocols are customized based on the specific concern, the treatment area, and the patient’s goals.
Localized fat reduction — abdomen, thighs, buttocks, hips, legs, arms, and face. Particularly effective for stubborn deposits that have not responded to diet and exercise.
Cellulite reduction — most commonly used on the thighs and legs, where superficial fat deposits and connective tissue changes create the characteristic texture of cellulite.
Body contouring and sculpting — targeted reshaping of specific areas using a combination of fat reduction and skin-tightening effects.
Skin tightening and rejuvenation — face, neck, and hands. Stimulation of collagen and elastin synthesis to improve skin quality and firmness.
Wrinkle reduction — as a complement to facial rejuvenation, particularly for fine lines and overall skin texture.
Alopecia treatment — mesotherapy has been used in the management of alopecia (hair loss conditions) to support scalp circulation and follicle health.
Fine needles deliver the injection blend into the mesoderm — the middle layer of skin — and directly into the target tissue. The delivery method is what makes mesotherapy distinct from topical treatments: active ingredients are deposited precisely where they need to work, bypassing the barrier limitations of surface application.
Microinjections place the active blend directly into the mesoderm and underlying tissue. The injection depth and placement are customized to the treatment area and the goal.
The antioxidants and active compounds in the injection blend work to increase blood flow and oxygenation to the treatment area, supporting the metabolic processes needed for fat breakdown and tissue remodeling.
The treatment stimulates collagen and elastin synthesis in the skin. This is what drives the skin-tightening and rejuvenation effects — making mesotherapy relevant not just for fat reduction but for overall tissue quality in the treated area.
Results develop over several weeks as the treatment area responds. Most patients notice reshaping of the area and improvement in skin texture and dimpling 2 to 4 weeks after treatment.
Avoid aspirin and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for one week prior to your appointment, as these can increase bruising at injection sites. Your provider will review any other relevant preparation at your consultation.
Treatments last between 20 and 30 minutes. Most patients describe the sensation as pinpricks — the treatment is generally considered well-tolerated. The number of injection points and the area covered depend on your specific protocol.
Results are not immediate. Most patients notice reshaping of the treated area and improvement in dimpling and skin texture 2 to 4 weeks after treatment. Multiple sessions are typically needed.
Most treatment plans require between 3 and 4 sessions, depending on the condition being treated, the size of the treatment area, and your individual goals. Session spacing is determined at your consultation.
Mesotherapy is a non-surgical injectable procedure. There is no significant downtime. Some redness, mild swelling, or bruising at injection sites is normal and typically resolves within a few days.
The composition of the injection blend, injection depth, and number of sessions is customized at your consultation based on your treatment area, concern, and goals. There is no single standard mesotherapy protocol.
Mesotherapy is generally most appropriate for patients who are in good general health, are within a reasonable range of their target body weight, and have specific localized areas of fat or skin concern that have not responded to diet and exercise. It is not a weight-loss treatment and is not a substitute for more significant body contouring procedures in patients with substantial volume to address.
The original medAge page noted patients between the ages of 18 and 75 as the typical candidate range, within approximately 5 to 25 pounds of their ideal body weight with stubborn localized fat areas. These parameters are general guidelines — your candidacy is determined through a personal consultation, not by a checklist.
The right starting point is a consultation. We’ll review your goals, assess the areas of concern, and tell you honestly whether mesotherapy is the right approach — or whether a different treatment would be more effective for what you’re trying to achieve. Sometimes the answer is mesotherapy. Sometimes it’s BodyTite. Sometimes it’s both. We’ll give you a clear picture before you commit to anything.
Mesotherapy is one option in a broader body contouring program. Depending on your goals and the extent of your concerns, one of the following may be a more appropriate recommendation — or may be used in combination with mesotherapy as part of a multi-modal plan.
